Here stands the statue of King Alfred the Great at the top of the high street in Winchester which is the historical capital of Hampshire.  Winchester covers a large area of central Hampshire including Bishop's Waltham, Denmead, New Alresford and Kings Worthy.

There are many sights to see in Winchester including:
  • Winchester College which has been used as a location to film Harry Potter and Les Miserables.
  • Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium offers 100 hands-on activities for inquisitive children.
  • The Great Hall is a medieval building in Winchester, Hampshire and was founded in 1067.

Winchester has been used as a location to film a number of documentaries, historical dramas and feature films that benefit from the stunning architecture and the surrounding contryside and open spaces. Winchester Cathedral was used in Netflix's The Crown and The Da Vinci Code in 2006. Winchester College was used for Les Miserables in 2012, The Riot Club, Victoria and Albert. The Watercress Line outside of Winchester is another popular location as well as Winchester's Great Hall for Wolf Hall. Hospital of St Cross, another of Winchester's attractions, was also used for Wolf Hall. The Guildhall Winchester was used for BBC Question time in 2019.
